Knowing better, caring better
Sensara wants to help the elderly by providing solutions during their entire health care journey. Starting with active seniors living alone who can use our HomeCare product. Connecting Sensara to an emergency response service is an additional option. When for instance a person is identified as vulnerable, we can support with early detection of risks and social isolation. At the same time, we will relief the pressure for family and friends. Once someone needs professional care, Sensara can prohibit crisis points by early detection of for example the reversal of day and night or a bladder infection. If needed, Sensara HomeCare can be expanded with a bed sensor for more close monitoring during the night. Research shows that this monitoring may delay admittance to a nursing home by 4 to 6 months. Once a client moves to a nursing home their history will accompany them to continue personalised care.

How Sensara ProCare works
Sensara ProCare is the 3rd generation sensor technology offering a 24/7 passive alarm function in the nursing home rooms. Four types of alarms are relevant: fall detection, leaving the room, out of bed detection and prolonged stay in the bathroom. Caretakers use one simple app on their smartphone that offers an overview of all the rooms and allows them to handle alarms between colleagues. Doing rounds at night to check on patients is no longer necessary. That time can be spent on residents who require immediate assistance. The resident benefits from not waking up from night rounds. If necessary, the nurse on call has the ability to change the client’s profile (temporarily). For example, if a resident’s risk of falling has increased, a 10 minutes delay alert for bathroom use allowance, may be changed to a direct alert when a resident is getting out of bed.
What Sensara HomeCarePro adds
Sensara HomeCarePro is an extension of the HomeCare product offering professional care institutions a managed platform to monitor multiple clients at the same time. The client authorises the institution access to his/her alerts. The institution can allocate the client to the correct sector/nurse or keep all in one sector in the case of an emergency response company. The platform offers you complete real time insight in the status of the clients if an alert is triggered. For periodic review, there is an overview per client. Sensara HomeCarePro can be used together with ProCare where the nursing home with ProCare receives the alerts for the residents in the neighbourhood or in the complex. Integration with electronic patient files is possible. Sensara offers an integrated approach for home care and nursing homes.
How Sensara HomeCare works
Sensara receives information from the sensors. The software of Sensara analyses all the current and past information to determine if certain profiles are occurring. The profiles Sensara uses are medically certified by the VU University Hospital Amsterdam. When the software identifies a profile, a message is send to the app(s) including an explanation of what has occurred. The continuous analysis of information allows Sensara to detect and adapt repeatedly to the personal situation of the client, resulting in up to 90% reduction of false alarms in comparison to the rule-based systems (2 vs 20 a month). Less false alarms result into a more relevant and better response from family and/or friends.
The second important functionality of Sensara HomeCare is prevention. We monitor the six most relevant trends for preventive care as determined in the scientific research. Changes in the trends can signal potential health risks. Early detection can prevent unnecessary pain, suffering and expenses for the elderly. For example: 1) Reduction in walking speed indicates an increased risk of falling. Exercises to improve equilibrium can prevent up to 50% of fall incidents. 2) Changes in the kitchen activity can signal the skipping of meals because cooking is too much effort. However, malnutrition can lead to reduced muscle tissue and therefore increase the risk of falling.
Early detection allows for early intervention to prevent a risk from turning into a crisis. The result is improved quality of life for the elderly, less stress for the family and overall cost saving.
With Sensara HomeCarePro, including the bed sensor, we can care for our client in their own home for an additional 4 to 6 months and delay going to a nursing home
